Compassion
& Empathy
Educated at Westminster and Oxford, I have the ability to push the brightest children to excel but also have the empathy to devise learning strategies for children who are struggling academically, or who have educational and behavioural needs.
As such, my tutoring is often akin to educational therapy – namely, an ongoing assessment of the child’s educational and emotional needs and provision of behaviour management programmes.
Classroom-based teaching has its uses, but it’s not an environment where all students thrive. Private tuition can be targeted to the specific needs, abilities and temperament of the individual student, and so can achieve great – often surprising – leaps in grades, understanding, and also confidence.
Sometimes a student just needs one-on-one time to grasp a concept so that they can learn independently. The additional support then helps them to better access classroom learning.
Fun
I love teaching and get a real thrill helping students improve their knowledge and confidence beyond the child or their parent’s expectations. I aim to make lessons fun and fast paced because, as we all know, children learn best when they’re enjoying themselves. The most common reaction I receive at the end of a session is, ‘What? Is it over already?’.
Knowledge
I am a self-confessed nerd with a life-long love of learning and the random facts that spark the imagination and engage students. While I studied English at Oxford, I am passionate about teaching all subjects – I enjoy the challenge, the variety, the way that different disciplines feed into one other and elicit a greater understanding of the world.
Confidence
My purpose as a tutor is to empower a student with the knowledge and confidence to stand on their own two feet – and, what’s more, to enjoy learning! Like any good teacher, I aim to make myself ultimately obsolete.
Tutoring is not about the child getting the answer right once – what really matters is them learning the method so that the student can get the answer right every time.
